CD Review:
Collective Jetplanes of Abraham consist of an amalgamation of three well known Ottawa bands. Consisting of Renee Leduc (violin, viola, accordion, piano/keyboards) and Rick Devereux (guitar, glockenspiel, bass, percussion, vocals) of Kingston Fog, Clayton Fisher (guitar) of For the Mathematics, and Caleb Abbott (percussion, melodica), Craig Mainprize (guitar, bass, synth, vocals), Chris Vechsler (piano/keyboards, bass, synth, guitar, melodica, vocals) of Turning into Salt, the band is super-group of sorts.
Tagged as the Broken Social Scene of Ottawa, the 6-piece play a variety of music and instruments, as the first paragraph would indicate, with electric guitars leading the way. The band has three singers which add even more to the variety and with hand clapping thrown in you may question whether the band has a wish to have every sound thinkable on their debut release.
The album itself consists of ten tracks of which three are instrumental interludes. They all have an upbeat tempo and you can't help but get sucked in with all the vocal harmonies, instrumental sounds and lyrical prowess. You can listen to the album many times and still pick out sounds you missed. If you enjoy a massive sensory experience when listening to music, this album will become one of your favourites. Let us hope when the members rejoin their main bands they leave some time for another album.
