CD Review:
Formed back in the late '60s in Scotland, Nazareth, that is, David McCafferty (vocals), Manny Charlton (guitar), Pete Agnew (bass) and Darrell Sweet (drums), attracted me to this greatest hits package because of the remake of The Everly Bros. song "Love Hurts."
The song was a ballad of very high regard and became a favourite of most fans of the band. This album has all their best songs. The problem is, they don't have many great ones and this compilation shows it. The aforementioned "Love Hurts" along with "This Flight Tonight" are the only stand-outs.
They play the typical rock of the '70s and McCafferty's voice is unusual, but it is not enough as the lyrics to the songs are mediocre; a good, but not great band.

CD Review:
After the 1985 release of Classics and The Best of the Doors, Electra again waited 1996 to release another greatest hits package. Since The Best of the Doors was re-issued on CD (two of them actually) in 1987 and continues to be re-issued to this day, this re-release of the 1980 album (of the same name) seems pointless.
There were some changes for this re-issue. Notably, "Not to Touch the Earth" was removed, and since a CD can hold more songs than an LP, "Love Her Madly," "The Ghost Song" and the Apocalypse Now movie version of "The End" were added. The CD was enhanced to include a video of "The Ghost Song" if you play the CD on your computer.
But even with the changes and additions, the album doesn't eclipse 1985's The Best of the Doors or its re-issue on CD in 1987. If you want the best greatest hits package from this band then get that one. I guess if you have some money to burn you can satisfy your curiosity and see the video but I'll pass.
