CD Review:
This live album was recorded during the band's 2003 tour. They were at Chicago's Congress Theater and from the sound of the crowd it was a show that might have been worthwhile to attend. The biggest problem with this album is that it is too short. If you liked The Better Life you may be interested in hearing some of the songs from that album here, including "Kryptonite." For some unknown reason (maybe the set in Chi-town didn't include it) they forgot to add "Loser" to the track-list which is disappointing.
Another problem is the inclusion of the rant lead singer Brad Arnold's exhibits on the war in Iraq. Who needs it on an album that is less than 30 minutes long. Maybe it was put there as a message to listeners of the CD and for future reference points when this album is forgotten in 25 years.
The highlight of the short set is the band's cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "That Smell." They did a great job reanimating an old southern classic.
I hope the band decides that their next live release deserves more than just a 6 song EP as this does not do great justice to a band that has revealed that even some popular mainstream bands can produce some good output.
