CD Review:
Steven and David Dewaele a.k.a. Soulwax put this album out as a side project. They took 187 song tracks, started calling record companies that own these 187 tracks to get permission to use them on a DJ mix recording. Of the 187 tracks, they received permission to use 114 of them. Then they started mixing. After reducing it to just over 60 minutes, they had 46 tracks on this release mixed in the way that they thought sounded the best. The samples include almost all genres of music. From Dolly Parton to Destiny's Child this mix is quite addictive if you like DJ remixes. A fun listen, give it a try.

CD Review:
By the time Lightfoot put out this CD he was 60 years old. His voice was going downhill, losing it crispness. The best things about this CD are things that aren't Gordon. The first is that the best song, "I Used to Be a Country Singer" was not written by Gord but was a cover of a Steve McEown song. It is about loneliness. A musician is on the road and a maid comes in to clean his hotel room. She said that she used to be a country singer until her husband died and she lost her voice and sex appeal. They end up singing and playing together to relieve the loneliness they are both feeling.
The second is that the best music played on the CD comes from Daniel Lanois on the songs "On Younge Street" and "Boathouse." Lanois, who made a name for himself working with Brian Eno and helping to produce for the likes of U2, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan is also an accomplished guitarist and he plays some great electric in those two songs.
But given that Lightfoot, even at 60, is still Gordon Lightfoot, he shows flashes of his glory in two songs that can be considered quite impressive. The first is "On Younge Street" a tribute to the main street in urban Toronto which is famous for its shops and length (it's the longest street in the world). The Second is "Boathouse" which is a song about the joy of being by one's self.
Overall, this CD is too ordinary to recommend. If you want to experience Gordon then his early stuff is much better.
