CD Review:
Elegancia, Richard Abel's newest CD, reminds one of large halls where men in tuxedos glide their ballroom dressed partners across lacquered hardwood dance floors in turn of the century England. Led by Abel's adept piano playing, Elegancia is a dedication to his many fans who requested a CD of this nature.
With accompaniment of violins, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, and keyboards, Abel weaves his way through 13 tracks of both familiar and not so familiar instrumentals. Highlights include an interpretation of Richard Roger's "A Sound of Music," Luigi Denza's "Funiculi Funicula," and a Mozart inspired song called "A Wink to Mozart."
At nine minutes short of an hour, Elegancia is a perfect CD to break the silence of a romantic evening without overpowering the conversation. Abel is Canada's best-selling instrumentalist and with this CD you can understand why.

CD Review:
Is this a reincarnation of the Stone Roses? This San Francisco band sure gives it a go. If you are influenced by any band, The Stone Roses circa 1989 isn't a bad choice. The music is heavy on bass and flowing sound-scapes. This is their sophomore release and it changes the sound of their self-titled debut. With songs like, "US Government," "Rise or Fall," and "Generation" it is easy to tell the band created a protest album.
