CD Review:
If you enjoy world music (that is, Latin, Jazz, Folk, and Irish), you will like this album. Unfettered by vocals (except on one song, Amanda Martinez sings on "Contessa") Luna allows Chris McKhool's violin and Kevin Laliberte's guitar take the lead on most tracks. McKhool is a world traveller and he has brought his experiences back to Canada for this CD.
With the aid of Bassam Bishara, Ernie Tollar Rick Lazar, Jeff Wilson and Maryem Tollar, Mckhool and Laliberte provide listeners with an eclectic sounding work of art. If anything can be said negatively about this release, it's its wide variety of sounds and styles from one song to the next. The variety (instead of sticking to one genre of music) detracts from the overall feel of the album. It will grab your attention at one point then lose you the next. The most enjoyable albums are the ones that demand your ear or melt into the background to create an atmosphere of relaxation. This CD mostly succeeds in the latter.
