CD Review:
Led by the hit single "Crabbuckit," Joyful Rebellion is a refreshing addition to the hip hop pantheon. There are only so many rap albums about thug life that can be listened to before you throw off the whole genre as repetitive and pathetic. Trinidad-born, Toronto-based K-os adds a positive voice to a genre that has moved into the mainstream and lost its creativity because of it. This album adds elements of reggae, mambo, old school scratching and acoustic guitar, not to mention some great lyrical rap, to create a fresh and enjoyable listen.

CD Review:
When looking back on hip hop in Canada, Maestro (orig. Maestro Fresh Wes) was the beginning. His single, "Let Your Backbone Slide" and the album which it is from (Symphony in Effect) spawned the creation of rap as a category at the Juno awards. But that was 16 years ago. This album, released in 2000, shows he is still one of Canada's greatest hip hop artists. The album is a history lesson in Maestro's career. He tells the story of his career in some great rap and dance floor friendly music. He continues the use of local up and comers in the Toronto rap scene (as he did with the 1998 release Built to Last) and the album is better for it.
