Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon [Wo Hu Cang Long] (2000) --> One of the great action films, that along with Eat Drink Man Woman [Yin shi nan nu] (1994), made director Ang Lee known in the west. The movie centers on Li (Chow Yun-Fat) and his pursuit of a lost sword. Set in feudal China where myths become real, this movie is part fairy tale, part adventure, and part love story. It is one of the greatest foreign films ever made to hit North American theaters.

Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991) --> This is just a bad documentary. Although, her demonstration of fellatio with a bottle was interesting, as well as the flash of breasts that you knew she would enhibit. The fun that the Toronto police had with her, in stating that she would be arrested if she performed the masturbation scene seemed, quite un-Canadian.

Bring It On (2000) --> Yes, this is a bit of an eye-candy movie, but it is funny and unique enough to overcome the obvious resorts to T&A. It is the first movie to take cheerleading as a serious sport (while still poking fun at it). It tells of a squad (The Toros) who realize their 5 championship trophies are a sham because their team captain stole the routines from a rival squad. The movie made Kirstin Dunst a star and director Peyton Reed some warranted attention.

Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain [Amelie] (2001) --> Jean-Pierre Jeunet directs and co-writes this charming movie about an introverted and mischievous woman who secretly plays tricks on her acquaintances in order to improve their lives. She finds love in one of the most original ways ever to grace the cinema. This movie is so charming that you forget that it is a romantic comedy/chick flick at its core. One of the strangest and amusing movies I have ever seen. A definite improvement for Jeunet over Alien: Resurrection (1997).
