Inside Man (2006)
Inside Man (2006) --> Spike Lee's latest flick stars Denzel Washington, Jody Foster, and Clive Owen with a great supporting cast (Christopher Plummer, Willem Defoe and Chiwetel Ejiofor). The story is clever and the ending is surprising. The action takes place when Owen and three others decide to rob Manhattan bank Washington is the cop in charge and he must figure out how to nail the robbers when in the end nothing was taken from the bank (no cash from the vault was missing). Throw in a Nazi and a bunch of stolen diamonds and you get a plot twist reminiscent of Marathon Man. An intelligent film that sparkles, Inside Man is one of the cops and robbers film of the last decade.

Artificial Intelligence: AI (2001)
Artificial Intelligence: AI (2001) --> A futuristic adaptation of Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio directed by Steven Spielberg's AI is not a film to be missed. Not a movie for the easily manipulated, it is a frightening film that questions how far we should go if our technology is capable of giving childless parent's artificial children.

What do you do with the child when you grow old and die and he is still 6 yrs. old? What do you do with him if you tire of him not aging and becoming an adult? Inevitably you toss him away or leave him behind. But if he has feelings emotions exactly as a human, what inhumane cruelty is that? Spielberg pushes all the right buttons with AI and you will be hard presses not to be affected by it.

Der Krieger und die Kaiserin [The Princess and the Warrior] (2000)
Der Krieger und die Kaiserin [The Princess and the Warrior] (2000) --> The second great movie from German director Tom Tykwer (the first being Lola Rennt), it tells of Sissi, a introverted nurse who lives and works at a mental institution. She is saved by Bodo, a mysterious guy, who could be the man of her dreams. Sissi searches out this man after she recovers and the plot both twists and turns without allowing you to understand its direction. The Princess and the Warrior is a love story that is both strange and compelling which comes highly recommended by this reviewer.

Vertigo (1958)
Vertigo (1958) --> James Stewart stars along side Kim Novak in this Hitchcock film. Stewart plays Det. John "Scottie" Ferguson who is retired from the force because of a fear of heights. A college buddy asks him to watch his wife who is of late behaving strangely. Not knowing he is being set up for a scam, Scottie is duped into believing the woman dies from a fall. Devastated because he had fallen in love with her, he mourns and tries to move on with his life until he sees a woman who looks very similar to his dead love and that is when Hitchcock shows why he is the master of suspense and intrigue. Vertigo is another of his amazing films.
