V for Vendetta (2006)
V for Vendetta (2006) --> Another success for the Wachowski Brothers who wrote the adaptation from the original comic book, V for Vendetta stars Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving (Mr. Smith from The Matrix). V for Vendetta is a movie about fighting a totalitarian government in a future England. Weaving portrays V, a terrorist bent on overthrowing the oppressive state using the 1605 Gunpowder plot as a motivator for the people to join him.

The selection of Weaving for the role of V was brilliant as the character needed an outstanding voice (like Vader needed with James Earl Jones) since he was behind a mask. Using John Hurt in the role of Sutler, leader of the state, was a stroke of genius not lost on viewers who remember the George Orwell film adaptation of 1984.

Failure to Launch (2006)
Failure to Launch (2006) --> Starring Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker, Failure to Launch is a typical rom-com that took advantage of Parker's availability for roles after the cancellation of Sex in the City. McConaughey plays Tripp, a 30-something single male who still lives with his parents. His parents (played by Terry Bradshaw and Kathy Bates) hire Paula (Parker) to try and solve this dilemma. The rest of the film is predictable clap-trap with a "they live happily ever after" ending.

Red Eye (2005)
Red Eye (2005) --> Wes Craven's departure from horror into the thriller genre is mostly successful with Red Eye. Starring Rachel McAdams as hotel manager Lisa Reisert and Cillian Murphy as hit-man-for-hire Jackson Rippner, Red Eye tells the story of a political assassination orchestrated at 30,000 feet. Rippner needs the Secretary for Homeland Security moved from his usual room at Reisert's place of employment in order for the assassination to be successful. When Reisert, at the last minute, flew to Miami to visit her mother, Rippner was forced to arrange the move aboard Reisert's return flight. Using her father's life as a motivator to comply to his demands, Rippner forces Reisert to phone the hotel and move the Secretary. But Rippner didn't factor in Reisert's determination.

Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006)
Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006) --> Not nearly as funny and entertaining as the first movie, the sequel seems to be more about bringing everyone back to recreate the magic than a credible continuation of the story. Ice Age: The Meltdown returns to the lives of Sid, Diego and Manny just as the ice is beginning to melt and the earth is coming out of its deep freeze. Forced to migrate south to avoid drowning the three friends meet up with some new characters including a female mammoth who thinks she's a possum. Surviving both the water and the predators that lurk just under it, the makeshift family wins the day and Manny finds himself a new mate.
