Just Friends (2005)
Just Friends (2005) --> Just Friends stars Ryan Reynolds as Chris Brander, a teenage fat guy who is best friends with the most popular girl in high school. At graduation when he proclaims his undying love through a yearbook signing, the school jock reads it aloud to the whole senior class at a year end party. Embarrassed, Chris takes off from the town only to accidentally return 10 years later as a thin, attractive, and successful music promoter. Sparks are rekindled with his high school best friend (played by Amy Smart) and after jumping through some hoops he gains her hand in marriage. Just Friends is your average rom-com that Hollywood puts out for the dating crowd.

Along Came Polly (2004)
Along Came Polly (2004) --> This is not one of Ben Stiller's greatest roles and Jennifer Aniston seems to just go through the motions in her role as Polly. John Hamburg wrote and directed this flop which was a bit surprising as he was responsible for giving us (as writer) one of Stiller's best roles as Derek Zoolander. This film is best left on the shelf at the local rental shop unless you need something to fall asleep to.

Bad News Bears (1976)
Bad News Bears (1976) --> Starring Walter Matthau as Coach Butterman, Bad News Bears is a comedy about baseball and misfit kids. Spawning numerous sequels, it tells the story of a bunch of rejects who through hard work and determination (and a couple great players) move from the bottom of the league standings to the top, and in the end, almost winning the championship. Although Matthau does a great job, it's the kids who make this movie a classic.

Haute Tension [High Tension] (2003)
Haute Tension [High Tension] (2003) --> Horror with a twist, High Tension, a film by French director Alexandre Aja, is Halloween meets Fight Club. Not at all original although the opening scene when you see the killer receiving fellatio from a severed head was a first in my movie-going experience, High Tension even falls apart on reflection. How is it that the killer was both outside the farm and up in the guest bedroom? This sort of incongruity was blatant and makes the ending of the film foolish. But since gore is a slasher film's main draw, and High Tension had it in abundance, it succeeds at least at that level.
