Derailed (2005) --> Starring Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen, this Mikael Hafstrom thriller first looks as if it's a drama about infidelity. But when the cheating man (Owen) and woman (Aniston) are robbed at gunpoint in the motel room they were about to consummate their adultery, the film turns into something more intriguing. Even if you were savvy enough to realize Aniston was in on the robbery and subsequent extortion, you would never have guessed what would happen at the end of the film. The major flaw to this James Siegel adaptation is how everything is wrapped up too easily. That is until the film continues with Owen being accused of embezzlement by his boss. There was also a loose end that wasn't tied up with the motel clerk. Privy to the crimes being perpetrated he is left to continue his business unmolested.

Yours, Mine and Ours (2005) --> A remake of the original 1968 comedy starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda, Yours, Mine and Ours is updated with Rene Russo and Dennis Quaid in the leading roles. When Admiral Frank Beardsley (Quaid) meets his high school sweetheart (Russo as Helen North) after being transferred back to his hometown by the navy, sparks are rekindled and they quickly marry. Both were quite prolific in their previous relationship (both are now a widow/widower) either through regular childbirth or adoption with the final result of Frank having eight children and Helen having ten. You can imagine the resulting pandemonium. Entertaining for a family, Yours, Mine and Ours is not much of a movie for anyone else.

Syriana (2005) --> This film will not be of interest to many movie-goers. The story is difficult to follow and to make sense of it all needs one to sit through most of the film and then re-watch it to get every plot point. That would be an investment most will be unwilling to make. But if it is done Syriana becomes an intense political drama of the first order. We see how deals are struck in the oil business and how that business is willing to go to secure a fresh supply of the black gold. Political systems are manipulated, leaders are assassinated, scape-goats are offered up, all in the name of big business. If you have four hours to invest (two hrs. per viewing), Syriana is worth the time.

The Dukes of Hazard (2005) --> If you watched the original television program you will be familiar with the plot of this movie. In fact it is quite similar to an episode just with different actors playing the roles. Hollywood loves to bore movie patrons with films based on '70s TV shows and for this one the only highlights were the super jumps of the General Lee and the bikini flash courtesy of Jessica Simpson.
