Ultraviolet (2006)
Ultraviolet (2006) --> Other than seeing Mila in tight clothing there isn't much to rave about the new film by Kurt Wimmer. The action scenes were reminiscent of The Matrix, the storyline was uninspiring and the script the actors were using was second-rate. But what topped it all off as asinine was the final confrontation between the protagonist and her arch-enemy (the sequence that makes or breaks an action movie) was shot in the dark. You could hardly see anything except disembodied flaming swords flying around in the blackness. It might be cool to sit in your darkened bedroom with a lit cigarette swinging it around to make interesting light patterns but it isn't the greatest idea to make something very similar to this as the climax to your film.

Firewall (2006)
Firewall (2006) --> Is it just me or is Harrison Ford getting too old for action scenes. Wouldn't a fight with him be like beating up your grandfather? In Firewall Ford plays a small bank's security specialist who is forced to steal 100 million in order to save his kidnapped family. The overall feel of this movie is similar to Cellular (2004) or Ford's own movie Air Force One (1997). With Ford being in his sixties and the fight scene between him and Paul Bettany at the end of the film looking as if it was a scrap between a man and a retiree, does it bode well for the new Indiana Jones film coming out sometime in 2007?

The Pink Panther (2006)
The Pink Panther (2006) --> There was not much to celebrate with the return of Inspector Clouseau as provided by funny man Steve Martin. We see a lot more of the character in this adaptation of the original from 1963 but somehow that is not such a positive thing. The funny parts aren't funny and the voice of Martin is more irritating than authentically French. Even Beyoncé's beauty couldn't save this picture. Go find The Jerk if you want to see Martin at his comic best.

Kids in America (2005)
Kids in America (2005) --> To protest the draconian policies of their principal a group of students use multiple means to change the rules at their high school. Inspired by three actual events across the U.S. the movie promotes students to take action when they feel wronged by authority. The events themselves were ripe for inspiration. A girl was suspended for wearing a t-shirt reading "Barbie is a Lesbian," another received the same punishment for promoting safe sex (taping condoms to her shirt) and a third for writing about a fictional account of a school shooting in her personal journal. Although the movie had good intentions it failed as an entertaining and thoughtful look at modern day high schools. The acting was sub-par which made any emotional connection to the themes presented a difficult task.
