The Descent (2005)
The Descent (2005) --> This film is what The Cave should've been. Where it failed in giving you a reason to become creeped-out, The Descent gave it to you in spades, with a healthy does of shock blended in. The Descent was directed by UK film-maker Neil Marshall who also gave us the werewolf thriller Dog Soldiers back in 2002. This film tells the story of a group of women who get together annually for an adventure. Each year it is different and this year's is a descent into and exploration of a subterranean cave system. What they encounter will cost most of them their lives. What it is I will leave a mystery as it will spoil the whole movie if known before-hand.

The Osterman Weekend (1983)
The Osterman Weekend (1983) --> This was Sam Peckinpah's last film before his death of a stroke in '84. It stars Rutger Hauer as newsman John Tanner who is convinced by CIA director Maxwell Danforth (Burt Lancaster) and agent Lawrence Fassett (John Hurt) that his friends Bernard Osterman (Craig T. Nelson), Richard Tremayne (Dennis Hopper), and Joseph Cardone (Chris Sarandon) are part of a Soviet spy ring called Omega. As the three friends are staying with Tanner for the weekend, Fassett is allowed to set up cameras around the house to monitor their actions. Tanner agrees to trap or turn his friends for the CIA over the course of the weekend. But this summary is only the surface plot to the film. Peckinpah adds a major twist that comes in the latter stages of the story that makes this film memorable. The film was based on a Robert Ludlum novel and Peckinpah makes it's transition to film intriguing and enjoyable.

C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005)
C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005) --> Winner of 10 Genies, C.R.A.Z.Y. is a touching story of the history of a Quebecois family from the '60s to the present where at its center is the love between a father and his gay son. It is funny, tragic, heart-warming and moving. Jean-Marc Vallée can be considered one of Quebec's great directors with this film. Stunningly successful in Quebec (making over six million at the box office), it has propelled Quebec film onto the international stage. It joins Gaz Bar Blues and other films as examples of Quebec film makers move from political films to films that tell a story.

The Ten Commandments (1956)
The Ten Commandments (1956) --> Charlton Heston's greatest role and Cecil B. DeMille's greatest film, The Ten Commandments tells the story of Moses from birth to the eventual freeing of the Jews from Egypt. The film also stars Yul Brynner as Egyptian Emperor Rameses and Anne Baxter as Nefretiri. The Ten Commandments is the greatest epic film during the time when epics were the vogue in Hollywood.
