Ben-Hur (1959) --> This, as well as his role as Moses in The Ten Commandments made Charlton Heston the greatest epic actor in the history of film. Based on the book of the same name by Lew Wallace it tells the story of two friends, one Jewish and one Roman, who eventually come to odds with each other. This movie is one of the greats when the epic was vogue in Hollywood cinema.

Sleeper (1973) --> My favourite Woody Allen movie, Sleeper is a comedic romp through the 22nd century. Allen plays Miles Monroe, a 20th century health food store owner who wakes up in the future only to be deemed a criminal by the totalitarian state that has replaced American democracy. The movie is full of Allen's wit and physical comedy. Add in Allen's ideas of what the future will hold, such as a metal sphere that gets you high and a machine called that Orgasmatron that allows sex between partners without the removing of clothing, and you can understand why Allen is considered one of America's great writer/director/actors.

Singin' in the Rain (1952) --> One of the great musicals in Hollywood history, Singin' in the Rain stars Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. It tells the story of Hollywood's transition from silent movies to the 'talkies' with a whole lot of singing and dancing in betweeen. Kelly was his ususal charming self, but it was the supporting cast that stole the show. Donald O'Connor as Cosmo Brown was spectacular, highlighted by the "Make 'Em Laugh" number that has him at his humourous best. And Jean Hagen as the dumb blonde just steals the show!

The Fog of War (2003) --> This documentary brought to you by the great American film maker Errol Morris (A Brief History of Time (1991), Fast, Cheap & Out of Control (1997), and Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr. (1999)) is a study into the public life of Robert S. McNamara, the Secretary of Defence during the Cuban Missle Crisis and the first part of the Vietnam War. It is basically McNamara interviewed by Morris with Morris adding background through film and television footage. What makes the film good is that you get an idea of what was going on in the White House and Pentagon during two of the U.S.'s most important historical moments in the 20th century.
