Ong-bak (2003)
Ong-bak (2003) --> Prachya Pinkaew has become synonymous with Thai martial arts films. With Tony Jaa as the in catalyst for Pinkaew's direction, his movies are all out action blockbusters. Jaa made his name for stunt doubling in Mortal Kombat Annihilation and after Pinkaew saw a demo reel he made this movie for Jaa. The collaboration continues with Tom yum goong (2005) and the soon to be released Sword (2006). This movie has a simple plot (a villager travels to the city to retrieve a stolen religious icon) and that is its only drawback. The action, using no CGI, strings, or other tricks, is spectacular. The movie continues the trend made famous by Jackie Chan by adding humour to the action.

Bewitched (2005)
Bewitched (2005) --> From the writer of When Harry Met Sally... (1989) and the director of Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and You've Got Mail (1998) comes a romantic comedy of magical proportions. Nora Ephron is one of the best in this genre of film although Bewitched doesn't live up to the movies mentioned earlier. Both Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell perform up to standard, and fans of theirs should see the movie, but the story is sub par and the ending is anticlimactic. Save this one for a DVD rental with your significant other.

Super Size Me (2004)
Super Size Me (2004) --> First time director Morgan Spurlock (who also wrote and starred) decided to make a documentary about eating McDonald's. Continuing the attack on the major fast food corporations that the book Fast Food Nation (2002) by Eric Schlosser made prominent, Spurlock decides he will eat only McDonald's for a month and during this time he will track his body's reaction. With the help of a doctor, he monitors the resulting negative effects. From weight gain and high cholesterol counts, Spurlock realizes that a fast food diet increases the likelihood of meeting an earlier death than would normally occur. The only problem with this movie is it leaves you asking the question, "Why would someone spend 96 minutes telling us what we already know?"

Cinderella Man (2005)
Cinderella Man (2005) --> Continuing the line of great boxing movies, (although Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby is better) Ron Howard (director) and Cliff Hollingsworth (writer) tell the story of Jim Braddock, a depression era boxer, who comes out of a forced retirement to win the heavyweight boxing championship. Russell Crowe stars as Jim Braddock and does an admirable job. The story is too similar to Rocky (1976) to give extra points for originality.
