Chicken Little (2005) --> Although Disney proper has lost its edge in animated innovation to its subsidiary Pixar, it does put out a film every once in a while that merits some attention. Chicken Little is one of these films. Taking the classic fairy tale, which was a lesson warning against exaggeration, and making the character's paranoia founded is the basis for this CGI film. Directed by Mark Dindal ( Cats Don't Dance (1997) and The Emperor's New Groove (2000)), the plot and characters are exciting enough to keep you watching, but if you are looking for a movie that compares to the Pixar releases, you will be disappointed.

The Amityville Horror (2005) --> The remake of the 1979 original was not as bad as one would think. Hollywood is remaking everything from '70s TV shows to Japanese horror flicks in order to keep the movie machine going. Without a talent base large enough to sustain the mass quantity of output, Hollywood invented the sequel (or franchise as they're calling it now) and the remake to take some of the load off. The Amityville Horror (2005), starring Canadian-born Ryan Reynolds and directed by newcomer Andrew Douglas, pays homage to a classic of the haunted house horror genre. Since the original has not stood up well over time, updating it in order to keep the legend (the film was based on true events) alive for another generation is not a bad decision. Trying to picture Reynolds as a lunatic killer, as most of his roles are of the comedic sort, was an obstacle. But just as Michael Keaton did with his roles in Clean and Sober (1988), Batman (1989), and Pacific Heights (1990), Reynolds proved he could act in a dramatic role after being tagged as a funny man.
