So Jealous (2004)Rating:(3.5/5)
Collaborating again with John Collins and David Carswell (the producers for If It Was You) and with the added touches of Howard Redekopp, this album moves the girls' music into pop territory. With the catchy hooks and simple repetitive lyrics (as their first single off the album "Walking with a Ghost" wholly shows), this album has all the marks of being a mainstream hit. Further proof of this is Rolling Stone's inclusion of the album in its "best of" for 2004. The CD is enhanced and will show you a video that goes through the making of the album when you pop the disc into your CD-ROM.
If It Was You (2002)Rating:(3/5)
Tegan and Sara's sophomore release on Vapor, it is less spontaneous sounding than their previous releases. The songwriting is their worse of any of their albums (as a whole anyway as there are a couple worse songs on their next release) and the punkish attitude on guitar seems to be fading from their repertoire.
This Business of Art (2000)Rating:(4/5)
This is the girls' independent debut. Neil Young "discovered" them through their self-released Under Feet like Ours and signed them to his label (Vapor). It rehashes some of the music off Under Feet like Ours and adds some new stuff. Produced by the enigmatic Hawksley Workman, it is their best album to date. It rocks harder than their future CDs and is less formulaic.
Under Feet like Ours (1999)Rating:(3.5/5)
Except for demos and a UK EP, this was the first release by the girls. Self-released on their Plunk Records moniker, it contains tracks like "Freedom," "Proud," and "Superstar" in their original format before being re-released on their independent major label debut (Vapor/Sanctuary) named This Business of Art. Produced by Jared Kuemper, the album was the springboard they needed to move up to the next level.
