The Super Ex

The biggest attraction to this year's Super Ex, other than the Rolling Stones of course, is a ride aptly named the Cannonball. New this year, the Cannonball is a ride that challenges both your fear of heights and your fear of falling. Standing an intimidating one hundred feet tall, this tower is not for the faint-of-heart. After strapping yourself into a shoulder harness, you are raised slowly upward, increasing your acrophobia with each foot of altitude. With nary a warning, except for an almost inaudible beep, you plummet downward, like some pigeon with a coronary. Just as your body tells you to prepare for a fatal impact with the concrete below, what feels like a cushion of air abruptly slows your motion. Once you come to a stop, you are urged to disbar and exit to your left. But you must rest a minute to allow gravity to reorient your innards back to their natural positions.

Taking a 10 minute rest, you come to the conclusion that a second turn would be a blast, but only after the passage of 365 days. You pass under the shadow of the Cannonball and move eastward only to be confronted by the second great ride the Ex has to offer. Again, you swallow your fear and prepare yourself for the Spin Out. Being twirled at an incredible rate while upside down draws you to the conclusion that two mistakes in less than 10 minutes is not as rare feat, even from an intelligent person like yourself.

Other rides of interest include the Zipper (a spinable oval Ferris wheel), the Time Machine (a standing ride that spins you at high speeds) and for the kids, the Space Sled (which has you lying on your stomach while being spun around).

If the rides or the midway games are of little interest to you, there are four stages with live music (sponsored by Pizza Pizza, Giant Tiger, Chez and the Rideau Carleton Raceway). You can check out the Motocross show (sponsored by Nintendo) or feed and view various animals at the Super Pet Petfest. While at the Petfest, drop in and see Gary Allen and his exotic bird collection.

Both Sean and I would like to thank Greg Hotte, Erika Espinoza, and all the others for providing an excellent time for us at FSO. Great job guys and keep up the good work!
