Steve St. Pierre EP Release Party
After approximately 3 years honing his skills on acoustic guitar, vocals, and songcraft, Steve St. Pierre has finally released a CD, albeit a short one. The singer/songwriter decided a party was in order and Eugene over a
Zaphod's decided to give him some time to celebrate. We at Full Spectrum Ottawa took Steve up on an invitation and enjoyed a couple hours of acoustic guitar music from both Steve himself and his opening act Amos the Transparent.
Amos the Transparent took the stage at 9:15 with an almost empty bar to greet him. With some friends in the audience and a few patrons, Amos a.k.a. Jon Chandler of former band Keep Yourself Good Company and presently guitarist for The Architects, doled out an hour of personal reflections on friendship, love and other subjects that make a solo acoustic performance both intimate and enjoyable. As he played his set, the bar began to fill and although many were watching his performance, some had no interest in the stage as they were busy talking with friends. The hazards of being an opening act did not go unnoticed by me and a few others listening to Jon. Amos the Transparent played mostly originals, including stand out songs, "All You Bellydancers," and "I'm on Trial." He finished up with cover songs by Martin Sexton and John Mayer.

Once Amos left the stage, Steve St. Pierre got up to a round of applause that indicated he has a loyal fan base in the nation's capital. People, including many of his co-workers at Rogers and friends from school, rushed the stage to get close and personal with the blonde, blue-eyed, and thin 20-something singer/songwriter. Working through a set of originals, including the four songs off his new EP (simply named, "Self-Titled EP"), Steve looked both comfortable and at times overwhelmed by the audience's enthusiasm. The crowd had increased in numbers slowly through the end of Amos the Transparent's set until the dance floor in front of the stage was filled with watchers as Steve strummed his guitar to begin his fourth song. Highlights of the concert included the songs, "Little Help," and "Bottles," (both off the EP), a cover of Jim Bryson's "One Cigarette," and after Steve invited his backing band on stage, three songs from the group to end the show.
