The Need for Speed: A Day at the Luskville Dragway

If funny cars and dragsters turn your crankshaft, then there isn't a better way to spend an afternoon than at the
Luskville Dragway. Just 30 minutes outside Ottawa and an hour and a half from Montreal (off the 148 highway), the Quebec venue is home to some of the best speed races in central Canada.
Full Spectrum/Exposure Online Magazine decided to take in Benson Autoparts Spring Nationals on June 16th 2007 and had a great time. The race cars came in all shapes and sizes from aggressively modified Cameros to sleek and aerodynamic dragsters, all pitted against each other on the quarter mile track.
The winners and losers didn't matter to this reporter as all cars blistered the track with speeds covering the full length of the track in five to seven seconds. The kids even got into the fray with their mini dragsters and if you attended the days events you would have even saw a modified snowmobile kick it into high gear down the asphalt.
But the true highlight of the afternoon was the jet car. The Fire Power Jet Car from Connecticut was a sight to behold with its jet engine power and rocket-like speed. When the crew fired up the engine your ears popped and when the accelerator was pushed the flaming blast out the backside of the orange coloured beast made you hold your hands over your ringing ears.
It was an entertaining afternoon in Luskville. Under the shadow of the Gatineau Hills and the sunny blue sky, we witnessed some spectacular cars and tremendous speeds, and isn't that what summer fun is all about.
