High School Confidential - Rough Trade 21. High School Confidential - Rough Trade Avoid Freud (1980) - 3:26

Carol Pope was never shy concerning sexual politics as this ode to lesbian lust indicates. Banned or censored on most radio stations, "High School Confidential" brought homosexuality into the mainstream of Canadian pop culture. A song about a shy girl in love with the most popular chick in her school was never heard before and Pope took no prisoners when penning the lyrics and voicing the words.

Disposable Heroes - Metallica 22. Disposable Heroes - Metallica Master of Puppets (1986) - 8:14

The greatest metal band ever had their greatest album with Master of Puppets. Led by title song and "Disposable Heroes" the album kicked serious ass. "Disposable Heroes" is an angst driven, aggressive bass pounding, speed freak of a song about the lack of worth an infantry soldier has in the overall plans of war makers. It you ever wanted to start and anti-recruitment campaign for the armed forces then "Disposable Heroes" would be the theme song.

Monster Hospital - Metric 23. Monster Hospital - Metric Live It Out (2005) - 3:30

This repetitive upbeat guitar driven rock song is a pure joy when led by the vocals of Emily Haines. The song is an adaptation of Bobby Fuller's hit from the '70s "I Fought the Law." Haines even mentions the singer in the song. For an upbeat song to get the adrenaline flowing, you can't get much better than "Monster Hospital."

Rasputin - Boney M 24. Rasputin - Boney M Nightflight to Venus (1978) - 5:51

Never very popular in North America (they were stars in Europe), Boney M did succeed it getting one song on the radio on this side of the Atlantic. "Rasputin" is a gorgeous up-tempo pop dance hit about the infamous Russian monk. The lyrics go through a short history of the infamous man but the attraction to the song is the bounce it gives you in your step.

Justify My Love - Madonna 25. Justify My Love - Madonna The Immaculate Collection (1990) - 5:00

Released as a single and then added to the compilation CD The Immaculate Collection, "Justify My Love" was never on any of Madonna's regular albums. It foreshadowed her next major release Erotica. The song is one of the most sexually blatant in her career. It's steamy, erotic and gives you fantasies about what it would be like to pleasure the woman. The video was also controversial which obviously, knowing Madonna's modus operandi, was what see was going for. Other than perhaps the Serge Gainsbourg/Jane Birkin song "Je t'aime... moi non plus," "Justify My Love" is probably the most erotic song ever to have mainstream success.

Dinah Moe Humm - Frank Zappa 26. Dinah Moe Humm - Frank Zappa Over-Nite Sensation (1973) - 6:01

Zappa's sexually explicit and satirically humorous song "Dinah Moe Humm" is not for the prudish. But if you are not a super conservative, it sure will make you laugh. The song is about a man who, on a bet of 40 dollars, tries to give a woman an orgasm. Zappa tries to show the folly of men through this piece and if you can get past the belly laughs to think about the song's point, you can see how stupid men can be when sex is all they have on their minds.

Spanish Train - Chris de Burgh 27. Spanish Train - Chris de Burgh Spanish Train and Other Stories (1976) - 5:03

"Spanish Train" is de Burgh at his best. When he meshes stories into song he can capture your imagination as few others are able. This song tells of a poker match between the devil and the All Mighty with the winner gaining the souls of all the dead. de Burgh takes the cynic's side by having the Lord lose (the devil cheats without God knowing). But isn't that the way it eventually comes out anyway because of our free choice?.

Cult of Personality - Living Colour 28. Cult of Personality - Living Colour Vivid (1988) - 4:54

It's rare to see a rock group completely made up of African Americans, but Living Colour was just such a band. They had their greatest hit with this song. It tells how we are duped into adulating a political leader without ever having met the person through spin and manipulation of mass media. Although they mention Gandhi alongside Stalin, the principle is still the same whether you have become famous or infamous. The fast paced heavy rock also makes this song a must in a collection such as this.

Bohemian Like You - The Dandy Warhols 29. Bohemian Like You - The Dandy Warhols Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia (1999) - 3:31

When you listen to The Dandy Warhol's most successful single, it's like a time warp back to the '60s during the reign of the Velvet Underground and other psychedelic rock bands. The song is upbeat and enjoyable especially since it pokes fun in a loving way at the era that brought us recreational sex and drugs which continues to influence the culture of today.

Sexy Results - Death from Above 1979 30. Sexy Results - Death from Above 1979 You're a Woman, I'm a Machine (2004) - 5:53

Death from Above released only one true album, but what an album it was. "Sexy Results" is the best single of the album with an up tempo beat and a sexual lyric package. Mixing drum and bass with a punk attitude, it's too bad Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler lasted only for a short period of time.
