The best of the second series of Star Wars films, Revenge of the Sith shows Yoda fighting Count Dooku and Obi-Wan fight Anakin, the two battles that everyone has wanted to see happen since it was announced Lucas would make episodes one, two and three. Honourable Mention: War of the Worlds.
Peter Jackson's King Kong Best Action/Adventure Film - Peter Jackson's King Kong
Peter Jackson follows the great Lord of the Rings trilogy with another superb adventure film. The fight scene between Kong and the T-Rex was a 10 on the "cool" meter. Honourable Mention: Batman Begins, Sin City, Unleashed.
The Devil's Rejects Best Horror/Thriller Film - The Devil's Rejects
Rob Zombie makes up for the bomb that House of a 1000 Corpses was by making a truly creepy sequel about the Firefly family on the run from the Texas Rangers leaving a trail of corpses reminiscent of Natural Born Killers. Honourable Mention: Land of the Dead.
Tim Burton's Corpse Bride Best Animated Film - Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
And you thought you had problems deciding which girl is the one for you? Imagine having to choose between a dead woman and a stranger! Burton uses his dark mind to create a stunning film that reminds you of his work with The Nightmare before Christmas. Honourable Mention: Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Robots.
Water Best Drama - Water
A gripping story about the lives of widows in a 1930s Indian Ashram, Water is director Deepa Mehta third work in the series of films (the others being Earth and Water) she wished to put out concerning the lives of women in India. Honourable Mention: Broke Back Mountain, Munich.
It's All Gone Pete Tong Best Biopic - It's All Gone Pete Tong
It's All Gone... tells the story of DJ Frankie Wilde who overcomes both drug addiction and deafness to leave the clubs of Europe on his own terms. A great story of triumph over adversity, and told with a great sense of humour that Michael Dowse (director) made known with his earlier rock spoof Fubar. Honourable Mention: Capote, Walk the Line.
March of the Penguins Best Documentary - Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room & March of the Penguins (tie)
2005 was a stellar year for documentaries which made it hard to choose which one was the best. Enron tells the story of the fall of one of the world's largest corporations through suspect accounting and business practices and straight out fraud. March of the Penguins was a beautifully made film about the Emperor penguin and its daunting task of survival in the harshest climate on the planet. Honourable Mention: Murderball, Grizzly Man, Inside Deep Throat, The Oil Factor.
Broken Flowers Best Comedy - Broken Flowers
Bill Murray stars as a middle-aged philanderer who is mailed an anonymous letter from a past lover who tells him he has a son. As he travels the country visiting all his former girlfriends we are witness to Murray's dry-side of humour backed up by stellar performances from Sharon Stone, Jessica Lange and others. Honourable Mention: 40 Year Old Virgin, Wedding Crashers, Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story.
