BC Fashion Week Spring 08

Evan and Dean

The Evan and Dean show was packed despite all the hoopla about Jason Matlo showing downtown and out of BC Fashion Week at the same time. Actually I heard you could make both shows if you left directly after Evan and Dean but, as expected, the show was a little late so we missed Matlo. Personally, I think a little controversy is always good; it certainly got Vancouver talking about fashion! I am pleased we saw the Evan and Dean show; I thought it was really great.

The show started with a black strapless dress with triangular tiered attachments coming off the sides and didn't stop until it ran through a good foil jacket with neck and collar transplanted on the back and a wedding dress with a bustier top and jacket flaps. It was crazy and fun and hey you could even wear some of it! Evan and Dean did a totally wearable loose cropped pant with a low crotch, they called a harem short. There were a few pieces that had sleeves (a tailored jacket) or sides (a bamboo/linen skirt) with concentrated cut out or pleated sections. I thought those looked really interesting and it's neat that Evan and Dean used bamboo and lyocell but the designs looked luxe instead of "eco.". There were a lot of scrunchy belts and banding being used, I especially liked a purple dress that used the scrunching on the straps and around the bust. I thought the apricot and taupe jackets were very wearable and I loved that color combo. One came out with belted sleeves and a big collar and an apricot skirt with bunched and darted sides was pretty. One of my favorite looks was a cream anorak-like dress with an elastic waistband. I wasn't as fond of a built-in cape-like sleeve that was used, it looked a little granny ...in...space! I also didn't like a pair of black pants with satin strips up the front. Plastic backpack buckles were used throughout, including around the waist of a lovely cream dress with draped skirt. The gold foil fabric started growing on me. The jacket in gold with the neck and collar on the back was a cool showpiece; I don't think it would look quite so crisp if at sometime during the night you had to sit in a chair!

The Evan and Dean show was lots of fun, the collection looked complete, it looked ready and I hope some of the other designers this week take note of that!

Sorry no pictures from this show! Hopefully Evan and Dean's Spring collection will be up on their website soon because I would suggest checking it out!
