BC Fashion Week Spring 08

Veegy

I am noticing that some designers at BC Fashion Week feel they must show a huge collection and represent every piece in all the colors that it's going to be offered in. It was proven this week that sometimes it is more effective to have a smaller showing. It keeps the audience interested and excited, like Christina Darling and Evan and Dean who both displayed fewer than 30 looks. I can guess that the dress and jacket will be offered in black and showing it again seems a little redundant.

The Veegy show was a little plagued by the repetitive thing that has been going around. Veegy designed by Veronica Guan, is a line of dresses and work wear for young women. I liked a navy dress with bubble-bell sleeves and just a bit of sequined detailing on the pockets (below), it was also offered in rose. The blouses in the show were gorgeous. They had double built up collars and French cuffs; I thought the lavender color would work for spring. Another plain white blouse with a double button placket was perfectly understated. Judging from the website, the Veegy line looks really affordable, I just wish I could find that white blouse on it! The chain belts and belly chain things looked tacky and really took away from the outfits. I did like a sheath dress (shown in multiple colors) that came with a matching thick belt and fabric weaved through it and tied at the front (below). There were a series of trench style jackets in light weight lovely fabrics that unfortunately ended up looked like dresses.

Overall, this collection lacked focus and was a bit over accessorized. It was too bad because I think there were a ton of great design features and lots of pretty fabrics. On the plus side, Veronica will have a lot of options when she picks a direction to go in for next season.
