Death From Above 1979
BAND MEMBERS: Sebastien Grainger (vocals, drums), J.F. Keeler (bass, synth)
FORMED: 2002, Toronto, Ontario
DISBANDED: 2006 (August 4th)

Sebastien and Jesse met in Toronto through a mutual friend. After several conversations about music they decided they should join up and create music they enjoyed. Described by many as playing sleaze rock, disco-hardcore, death metal disco, or a ballsier White Stripes, and compared to bands such as the Queens of the Stone Age, Black Sabbath, Lightning Bolt and the Chemical Bros. make
Death From Above 1979 a must hear in many critic's books.
Taking their original name (a paratrooper motto) and adding 1979 (Sebastien's year of birth) to avoid litigation from an American dance-rock label (also called
Death From Above), gives the band an aura of cool that their music justifies.
Full Spectrum's Reasons for Listening:
Full Spectrum loves to listen to music coming from something other than the same 4-piece (drums, bass, guitar, and singer) bands that are the norm in rock circles. DFA 1979 removes the guitar and lets the bass lead the music. It's different, simpler and more effective in a stripped down get-to-the-point sort of way. Grainger's vocals are pitched perfect for the high-octane music and don't you want, every once in a while, a loud band to fall in love with melodic bass thumping dance infused hard rock and roll? It gives the adrenaline rush a little different feel now doesn't it?
With the band's split (Keeler has joined with Al-P (the producer of Death From Above 1979's seminal work
You're a Woman, I'm a Machine) to form the group MSTRKRFT) it is even more recommended to pick up DFA1979's discography as it will be difficult to find the music in a few years.
